- Nick, Matt, and Andy

Say hello to Matt Heller and Nick Nisi

Say hi to Matt Heller  (@whatevermatt) and Nick Nisi (@nicknisi)!

By now you’ve probably met Matt Heller and Nick Nisi.  They are going to be taking over for me to keep the Beer && Code magic alive here in Omaha.  I will still come to Beer && Code, just not every single month.

A few things let up to this.  First, I’ve always felt Beer && Code can be more than it is.  I can not do this on my own, heck I’ve tried and it just didn’t go very far.  Things like websites, reaching out to the other locations, and getting word out sooner are all things I wish I could do.  Second, my time this year is going to continue being more and more limited.  I’ll keep you all informed with that as things come to pass.

So in order to keep moving forward, Nick and Matt are the main guys here in Omaha.  They will organize each monthly event, get the website from suck to (at least) useable, and reach out to all your Beer && Coders.  I really look forward to their direction.

Finally, I’ve always said that as long as people show up then we will keep this thing going.  If you like the event, keep showing your pretty faces monthly.

Beer && Code - End of Year Party (lets try again) - Wednesday Jan 16 - Beercade

Remember how last month we planned a fun end of the year party only to get interrupted by the Omaha Doom Blizzard of 2012?  The postponed party is still on for Wednesday Janurary 16 at Beercade.  Show up any time after 6pm and bring a friend if you like; this is a party.

Just like the last few end of the year parties we’ve done, fellow Beer && Coders chip in for a round or two.  So far I’m chipping in for a bunch of quarters and Gabe Kangas (fellow Omaha Beer && Coder who is now in California) is chipping in for a round / or more quarters.  If you are interested in helping out, email me (andy@ninthdivision.com) or contact me at the party.

Location:  Beercade! - (6102 Maple Street Omaha, NE 68104)

Date:  Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Time: 6PM - ? PM

Here is the original announcement.

POSTPONED: Beercade Party

We are postponing our party tonight.

Given there is a Blizzard Warning, the fact that there is no parking on Maple Street, and of course Derek isn’t coming, we are going to postpone the party to Wednesday January 16 and it will still be at Beercade!  I want everyone to be safe and with the holidays coming up, drinking + blizzard probably isn’t super smart.  We’ll do the same party and same place next month.

I wanted to wait to see if the weather would change for our favor.  I know many have made arrangements so its a shame to cancel at the last minute.  But that is how Nebraska weather is after all.

I think more people will be able to make it out to the party on Wednesday January 16th.  Besides, there isn’t anything cool going on in January … until now.

I’ll post an update in about a week about the party.  I’ll make it worth the wait…

WEATHER UPDATE - End of Year Holiday Party

As you all know by now, we are under a Winter Weather Warning.

You may have also noticed that I announced on Twitter earlier that we will call whether we postpone or go ahead and party by 3PM by today.  I am waiting until last minute because weather conditions may change; this is Nebraska after all.

This party is for you.  So I’m asking that anyone who was planning to come tonight, reply / dm me on twitter (@BeerCodeOmaha or @andypeters) if you not coming or still planning - either way.  Give me updates through the day even. If you don’t have Twitter, email me - andy@ninthdivision.com.

If by 3pm the majority of people are not coming then we will cancel for sure.  Other factors:  Beercade is closed, the city of Omaha is basically closed or Snowmaggedon is clearly on track to destroy us all.   I’ll be in touch with Beercade this afternoon for advisement as well.

My concern is safety.  Party + Drinking + Epic Snow Storm = bad news for Beer && Coders.  If we postpone it’ll be for next month - probably 3rd Wednesday again.

I’ll post on Twitter, this Blog, and the Google Groups an update again by 3PM today!

-Andy

End of the year party - December 19 2012 - Beercade

Last year in December we had a sweet party at Krug Park and the year before that we were at Upstream.  This year we are totally geeing out at Beercade (website / Facebook).  Beercade has lots of great classic arcade games (Space Invaders, , a few good pinball machines and many great beers on tap.

  • Date:  Wednesday - December 19, 2012
  • Time:  Starting at 6PM
  • Where:  Beercade  - 6102 Maple St Omaha, NE 68104 (look for the graffiti).

The party is open to all Beer && Coders.  So Bring your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, or whoever you like dragging to things like this.  Know any other coders who needs to get connected with other programmers.. then bring them.  I have talked to a ton of you and many of you have not been to Beercade.  Be sure to come out - its such a great place!

We have a few companies and individuals chipping in to help you all play many video games.  We are pulling together a few others to hopefully buy a few rounds of drinks too.  Interested in spreading the cheer?  email andy@ninthdivision.com.

Spread the word and come on out Wednesday!

Wednesday October 17 - Library Pub - 5pm

“Brace your self, winter is coming” (insert meme from great tv show here)

Back by popular demand:  The Library Pub!  In the last month, a few people have been asking for the Library Pub.  Why, cause its pretty awesome.  Kind of a dive, but nice seats, plenty of tables, great brews and other liqueurs.

Date: October 17, 2012

Time: I’ll get there at 5PM.

November 2012 Meeting is Cancelled!

Next month is November!  Wow.

I am canceling our Novemberget together.  Given that Beer && Code would normally happen the day before Thanksgiving, I decided it was best to call off November.

See you in December; end of the year party time!

Wednesday Sept 19 - Omaha Tap House - 5pm

Its time to prepare for cooler weather, fall projects and/or Startup Weekend, by getting a frosty beverage at Omaha’s newest craft brewery:  Omaha Tap House.  I like their menu and personally think I’ll be trying the Ska Decadent on tap.  I’m excited to be working on some great new projects during the coming fall months and meet up with those attending before startup weekend.

I personally haven’t been there, but have heard great things thus far.

Location:  Omaha Tap HouseTime:  5PM (The location on a Google Map)

Address:  1401 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE

Trivia:  We are entering into our 3rd freaking year for Beer && Code!  Wow.  Who knew this would still be a thing.
